In Rocky Mountain National Park west of Estes Park Colorado, Deer Mountain trail head is located west of the Beaver Meadows entrance station on US-36 and before US-36 intersects with US-34. The trail head is typically open during the winter because it is east of the Trail Ridge Road; which is closed October to June. Hiking to High Dune – Great Sand Dunes National Park
Great Sand Dunes National Park is located 27 miles (~ 1 hour) northeast of Alamosa, Colorado and off of US-160. Primary activities at the sand dunes including hiking, hiking with leash dogs, and beach water play but horses, cars, and mountain bikes are not allowed at this trail head.
