Last Saturday March 7th at 9am at the outdoor classroom at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, I gave my first guided hike as a Larimer County Volunteer Naturalist. My talk emphasized the importance of children interacting with nature and, specifically, with regard to nature deficit disorder. I then transitioned into four topics about hiking with babies and toddlers: how to dress babies and toddlers, what to pack, how to carry your child, and where to hike along Colorado’s Front Range. If you missed my presentation, I have published my presentation script on our Two Knobby Tires kids hiking page. Regarding where to hike along Colorado’s Front Range, check out my favorite Fort Collins hikes for kids and this blog’s sidebar navigation section called “Best Colorado Hikes for Kids”. Finally, you may enjoy reading about my favorite Fort Collins hikes for dogs.
Nice post and good blog post on equipment. We outline some of the same ideas in our hiking chapter in Fit Family. http://bit.ly/YY007
Thanks for the tip. Your book looks great.
Keep up the great work on the front range in CO. In the DC area, we are activily engaging children with the outdoors/nature. Check out hikingalongtrails/blogspot.com or Hiking Along, LLC on Facebook.
Thanks. Happy blogging.
Thanks for a great post. Here's another one I found called Happier Trails. It's filled with good tips to keep your kiddos smiling on the trail. Check it out here: http://www.fivehens.com/happy-trails-hiking-with-kids/
Chris, thanks for the comment. I really like your treasure pouch idea which I plan to try with our 2 1/2 year old that loves to pick up rocks.
