The Well Gulch Nature Trail is inside The Charles A Lory State Park, which is a 20-25 minute drive west of downtown Fort Collins, Colorado. Primary activities at Lory State Park include hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, backcountry camping, horseback riding, and hiking with dogs. Most of the park’s trailheads include restrooms but no water. Cell phone service is intermittent while in the park. You must purchase a day pass or 12 month pass to enter.

Well Gulch Nature Trail
Our first experience with Lory State Park was a hike on the Well Gulch Nature Trail starting from the Eltuck Picnic Area parking lot. It is #4 in the map above and a moderately easy 1.2 mile hike that rewards you with a beautiful eastern looking view of the Horsetooth Reservoir (i.e., see below). The trail offers a mix of sun and shade. For more information on Lory State Park, check out Arthur’s Rock Hiking Trail and Lory State Park Mountain Bike Trails.
